    About Our Associate Counsel:  

    The successful candidate may work on a variety of legal matters, including contracts and vendor management, litigation management, insurance and regulatory matters, marketing and agency issues, corporate governance, and other transactional and operational issues.  This is a new position and job responsibilities and preferences may be tailored to suit the right candidate.  Experience is helpful, but we are willing to train strong candidates.

    The successful candidate will possess the skills and attitude necessary to deliver quality legal services to in-house clients in our unique culture. This will require identifying and mitigating risks and providing solution-oriented advice.  This person will interact with all levels of the business in a flat environment and must be approachable, adaptable, proactive, and service-oriented. 

    More specifically, you will/may:

    Review, draft, and negotiate contracts;
    Advise company of contractual risks and resolve disputes;
    Assist with the management of outside counsel and discovery requests;
    Assist with maintaining and organizing corporate governance;
    Review marketing materials, policies, guidelines, and other materials;
    Monitor legal developments, develop subject matter expertise, and provide training;
    Anticipate legal issues and work closely with business partners to mitigate risk;
    Perform research and provide counsel on a variety of legal issues

    Required Qualifications:             

    • Must be admitted to the practice of law in Virginia or be admitted in another state and eligible for corporate counsel admission in Virginia;
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and flexibility to adapt to changing business needs;
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills;
    • Ability to effectively interact with others at all levels of the organization;
    • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills;
    • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships across the company;
    • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Will consider recent graduates, but prefer 1-3 years of experience
    • Some experience in complex contract negotiations and litigation helpful
    • Some experience managing external counsel and litigation including discovery requests helpful
    • Some experience organizing and maintaining corporate governance helpful
    • Some familiarity with IT concepts and experience with IT contracts and risk helpful
    • This is an in-house position but the ability to represent the company externally may be helpful
    • This is not a Claims position but some claims or claims litigation experience may be helpful
    • This is not a Human Resources position, but some employment law experience may be helpful
